Atelier Sakurano
- The studio of the Shimada family ceramic artists

Shimada, a Japanese potter in Mashiko Town

The Shimada family, who are active as ceramic artists in Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, have a studio there called Atelier Sakurano, where they can exhibit art works other than ceramics. There is also a space where you can try your hand at pottery, and you can see exhibitions of works by ceramist Kyoko Shimada. In the past, the largest Noborigama kiln in Mashiko was also here, but it has now been destroyed and is under construction. Why not visit this traditional Japanese architectural studio in the middle of a lush forest? There is also a half-day pottery experience available for 20,000 yen (Inquiries: info@o-japan.co.jp)

The "Noborigama" kiln was destroyed in the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. It was the largest kiln in Mashiko. It is currently being repaired at my own expense. It is expected to be completed in a few years.
